On 5th June it is World Environment Day – a day when we make an active effort to do something to take care of the Earth. Really, we should be doing something every day to improve the only planet we call home, but in this busy day and age, it is easy to forget. So, World Environment Day offers us a chance to consider our personal impact on the planet.

Environmental concerns are a hot topic today, but World Environment Day has actually been running since 1974. Established by the United Nations, the day has a different theme every year and 2019’s topic is air pollution. Pollution has a damaging effect on human health, which is ironic because the five main sources of air pollution come from human activity. Find out more here: World Environment Day.

Our impact on the planet is something we think about carefully at Nathalie Bond. We have seen first-hand the positive impact natural ingredients can have on our skin, so we recognise that it is really important to protect the earth that produces them. For World Environment Day, we thought we would take stock of how we care for the planet through our business…

Natural Candles

The World Environment Day theme of air pollution got us thinking about our scented candles. Each candle is made with GMO-free soy wax and scented with essential oils, which makes for a clean-burning experience that doesn’t give off toxic carcinogens. The rest of our Home Fragrance range is also entirely natural, we can breathe in deeply knowing our homes are full of fresh air rather than synthetic chemicals.  

Multi-Purpose Skincare

When it comes to skincare, instead of creating a different moisturiser for our hands, feet, face, body etc. we developed a multi-use Balm which can soothe every dry patch. And we produced a Soap Bar that cleanse the face, wash feet and hair; a Organic Face Mist that can freshen up skin and your pillows; a Body Oil that… you get the idea! Why have ten skincare solutions when we could have one? Put simply, less skincare products = less waste.

Natural Ingredients

Those multi-use products are made of entirely natural and organic ingredients. This is obviously super kind to skin, but it is also great for the planet. All the organic ingredients we use are certified COSMOS organic, which means they are sustainably sourced, biodegradable and free from synthetic fragrances and nasty chemicals. When we run water through our Soap Bars, we know that no chemicals are rushing down the drain, eventually reaching our oceans.

Recyclable Packaging

Finally, the packaging that encases these natural ingredients is almost all glass. Our brown bottles and metallic lids can be recycled as many times as possible with no degradation. We keep our plastic use to a minimum because although it can be recycled it can only be reused a few times. And when we ship items, the boxes are recyclable, and products are protected with paper and starch-based eco chips that are both 100% biodegradable. 

Palm Oil Free

Last but not least we've seen the terrible deforestation that has taken place in Malaysia and Indonesia to make room to grow more palm oil so we feel strongly that our range is totally free from palm oil.
